We have been meaning to start writing about our journey for months. Well, since January. Now that it is August, I will just have to give the highlights of those months.
In January we decided to start the process of adoption. Spent many nights doing the research to find the best agency and information. We chose CHI because they were highly recommended and close by to where we live.
We started getting the basic information together while waiting for approval of application. Our first hurdle happened with getting my pass port. Due to the back log, I ended up waiting 10 weeks to get it. When we finally received it,it had an error. So I sent it back. And got the corrected one several weeks later.
The hardest part of the dossier was getting the notary. We finally managed to get all the paperwork notarized, then realized it expired within 6 months! In August we finally realized that we can get our documents notarized at KU for free. What a relief that was.
Our trip to the immigrations office (INS) was an experience. We were shocked by all the security there. It was an expensive 30 minute visit. Just glad it all went well. We will always remember not to park in the parking lot. (it was reserved for employees only) Security guard made sure we knew.
As of now, we are adopting from the Krasnoyarsk Region. It is in central Russia, and is the largest region in Siberia. the city of Krasnoyarsk is located on the Enisel River, and is a stop on the Trans-Siberian Railroad.
Our agency (Children's Hope International) is waiting to be re-accredited. So the process is very slow. Once the accrediation is approved, the wait shouldn't be too long. Right now we are looking at waiting 12 months to have our boy home with us.
